Age Relaxation Rules for Government Exams: Complete Category-wise Guide
Age relaxation can give you extra years of eligibility. Know your entitlements to maximize your attempt count.
Banking Exams (IBPS/SBI)
General: 20-30 years (PO), 20-28 years (Clerk). SC/ST: +5 years. OBC (Non-creamy layer): +3 years. PwD: +10 years. Ex-servicemen: +5 years (subject to max age).
SSC Exams
CGL: 18-32 years. CHSL: 18-27 years. MTS: 18-25 years. SC/ST: +5 years. OBC: +3 years. PwD: +10 years. For CGL, some posts have different age limits (up to 30 or 32 for Group B posts).
Railway Exams
NTPC: 18-33 years. Group D: 18-33 years. SC/ST: +5 years. OBC: +3 years. Note: Railway already has higher base age limit compared to other exams.
Important Notes
Age is calculated as on a specific date mentioned in the notification. Keep your birth certificate and category certificate ready. Some exams allow multiple relaxations to be combined (PwD + category). Always check the specific notification for the latest rules.
