Coded Inequality: Fastest Method to Score Full Marks

2025-09-25 5 min read By Vedanti Academy

Inequality questions are free marks in banking exams — 5 questions that should take no more than 2 minutes total.

Step 1: Decode Symbols

Write the meaning of each coded symbol on your rough sheet first. Example: @ means >, # means <, $ means =, % means ≥, & means ≤. Takes 15 seconds but saves confusion later.

Step 2: Chain Method

Convert the statement into a single chain: A > B ≥ C = D < E. Now any comparison along the chain is valid if all signs point the same way. A > C is true (same direction). A > E cannot be determined (direction changes at D).

Common Traps

≥ and > are different. "A ≥ B" means A is definitely ≥ B. "A > B" means A is definitely > B. "Either I or II follows" — check if one of them must be true in all cases.
