Non-Verbal Reasoning: Mirror Image, Water Image & Paper Folding

2025-10-18 6 min read By Vedanti Academy

Non-verbal reasoning carries 3-5 questions in SSC exams. With practice, these become free marks.

Mirror Image

The mirror image is a lateral inversion (left becomes right). Place an imaginary mirror on the right side. Everything flips left-to-right, but top-bottom stays same. For letters: b→d, p→q. For numbers: check which digits change.

Water Image

Water image is a vertical inversion (top becomes bottom). Imagine the figure reflected in water below it. Top-bottom flips, but left-right stays same. For letters: b→p, d→q.

Paper Folding & Cutting

Step 1: Track the fold direction. Step 2: Note where the cut is made relative to fold. Step 3: Unfold mentally — the cut pattern repeats symmetrically on the unfolded part. Tip: Use actual paper to practice until the mental model becomes intuitive.
