Order & Ranking: Shortcut Method for Position-Based Problems

Order & Ranking carries 1-2 questions and should be solved in 30 seconds each.
Basic Formula
Total persons = (Position from left) + (Position from right) - 1. Example: Rahul is 7th from left and 13th from right. Total = 7 + 13 - 1 = 19 persons.
Interchange Type
If A and B interchange positions: New position of A = Original position of B. Difference between positions = |Position of A - Position of B|. If A was 5th from left and after interchanging A is 15th from left, then B was originally 15th from left.
Two Conditions Type
"A is 5th from top and 8th from bottom of the boys who passed." Total boys who passed = 5 + 8 - 1 = 12. "If 6 boys failed," total boys = 12 + 6 = 18.
